Navigating and Negotiating the Pretransfer Process: The Community Cultural Wealth of Latina/o Community College Students

This qualitative study by José Del Real Viramontes will describe the pretransfer experiences of 10 Latina/o community college students who transferred to a predominantly white institution in Texas. His findings reveal how Latina/o community college transfer students applied their aspirational, familial, navigational, and social capitals to confront the conditions presented by Transfer Student University during the pretransfer process, highlighting their own transfer experience and circumstances.

Viramontes is a visiting postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership and a research assistant at the Office of Community College Research and Leadership.
