This study examined gender and race/ethnicity enrollments within Illinois high school STEM Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs of study. Substantial race- and gender-based inequities were found, with female, African American, and Hispanic students underrepresented. Compared with national enrollment patterns, Illinois showed greater gender-based disproportionality in all but one STEM career cluster area. Recommendations for policy makers and school leaders regarding ways to achieve more equitable distribution of students within STEM CTE programming are provided.
