DESCRIPTION:Speaker Information: Dr. D-L Stewart Professor of Higher Educat
ion and Student Affairs\, Bowling Green State UniversityPart of the Dean's
Diversity Lecture SeriesDuring the last three academic years\, colleges a
nd universities nationwide have been in the news as student demands from r
acially minoritized students\, particularly black students and their accom
plices\, have gone viral via social media. The current generation of stude
nt activism by black students is calling for direct actions\, tangible out
comes\, and greater institutional accountability for creating and sustaini
ng campus environments that are more diverse and inclusive. Incidents of r
acial microaggressions against minoritized faculty\, staff\, and students
continue despite pledges to increase the numbers of faculty\, staff\, and
students of color\; sizeable commitment of dollars\; and notable gains in
the racial and ethnic diversity of certain parts of campus. In this public
lecture\, Dr. D-L Stewart will call attention to the gap between focusing
attention on compositional diversity and actually doing the work necessar
y to foment and sustain institutional transformation toward greater racial
  justice.Dr. D-L Stewart is a scholar\, educator\, and activist focused on
empowering and imagining futures that sustain and cultivate learning\, gr
owth\, and success of marginalized groups in the U.S. higher education ins
titutions.Sponsor: College of Education and OCCRLMore Information
