DESCRIPTION:Little attention has been paid to the role of minority-serving
 two-year institutions\, in particular Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs)
is fairly young and primarily centers on the four-year context while ther
e is a dearth of information available on HSCCs. Over half of Hispanic-ser
ving institutions (HSIs) are HSCCs\, and approximately 80% of HSCCs are in
urban communities with a critical mass of Black and Latino male attendees
. Minority-serving community colleges have a largely unrecognized role in
the degree attainment of students of color specifically the impact on Hisp
anic and other racially minoritized student outcomes has been largely unex
plored. The presenters will facilitate a discussion on the intersection of
student and institutional identity\, talk with attendees about the discon
nect between college designations and their responsiveness (or lack thereo
 f) to Black and Latino men. Findings from case study research will be shar
ed pertaining to academic/social experiences and challenges navigating tra
nsfer pathways leading to further education.\nFurthermore\, this session w
ill engage attendees in a conversation regarding practices and processes t
hat support postsecondary engagement with Science\, Technology\, Engineeri
ng\, and Mathematics pathways more specifically and overall degree attainm
ent for men of color.\nSponsor: 2018 Black &amp\; Latino Male Summit
